First AQUARIUS Regional Lighthouse Access Call is Closed: What’s Next in the Process?

The first AQUARIUS Transnational Access Funding Call, the Regional Lighthouse Access Call, officially closed on 20 January 2025 at 23:59 CEST. Open since 11 November 2024, the call aimed to support research aligned with the themes, scientific priorities, and societal challenges identified for the EU Mission Ocean and Waters Lighthouse Regions.

Marine and freshwater researchers from across Europe and the world were invited to apply, focusing on the four Mission Ocean Lighthouse Regions and their respective lines of action (more info here). The call provided access to a range of 57 state-of-the-art research infrastructures dedicated to marine and freshwater science.

Following the submission deadline, eligibility and logistical feasibility checks have been completed. The next phase involves a rigorous scientific evaluation process conducted by external, independent experts under the oversight of the AQUARIUS Scientific Expert Panel (SEP). This evaluation will ensure that the selected proposals align with the highest scientific standards and contribute meaningfully to the objectives of AQUARIUS.

Researchers who missed this opportunity will have another chance to apply in September 2025 through the upcoming Super-Integrated Lighthouse Call, which will further expand access to AQUARIUS facilities. For inspiration on these, have a look at our use cases here.
