AQUARIUS Training Opportunities for Early Career Scientists in Marine and Freshwater Domains

Europe has an incredible repertoire of research infrastructures that enable research and innovation and contribute to international cooperation in a changing world. With a catalogue of 57 state-of-the-art research infrastructures accessible through our Transnational Access Calls, training is a vital aspect of AQUARIUS, as we are committed to ensuring that the next generation of marine and freshwater scientists and technicians are equipped with the necessary skills and experience.

Throughout the four-year project timeline, AQUARIUS will offer a range of training opportunities for early career scientists and technicians, with the first opportunities launched at the beginning of February 2025. Selected participants will be able to attend courses hosted by AQUARIUS partners, such as at the PLOCAN Glider Summer School, or take part in the AQUARIUS-funded Transnational Access projects as interns.

Marine and Freshwater Internships
AQUARIUS recently launched an open call for applications for internships for early career scientists, technicians, Ph.D. students, M.Sc. students and post-docs working in marine and freshwater sciences.

Once the AQUARIUS Transnational Access projects are selected through the first Transnational Access funding call, project leaders and research infrastructure operators will be invited to confirm whether they have capacity to accommodate an intern. Interns will not conduct their own research but will gain invaluable experience learning how international scientific teams operate and utilise AQUARIUS research infrastructures.

Please note that only ship time and access to research infrastructures are financed by AQUARIUS. Other expenses including travel and accommodation will be partially reimbursed by the AQUARIUS project  – up to a specified limit.

AQUARIUS will maintain a database of all qualified interested candidates and will draw up a shortlist based on suitability for the available opportunities.

Applications are accepted from 1st February 2024 to 1st February 2027. Applicants should complete and submit the electronic application form along with a letter of recommendation from their supervisor. The letter must be on institutional letterhead and signed by the supervisor.
