Seabed mapping training programme

Seabed Mapping Training Programme on the RV Tom Crean

October 3rd – October 6th | RV Tom Crean, Galway, Ireland
AQUARIUS is delighted to offer this fantastic training opportunity, in collaboration with HydroOctave and the INFOMAR team. The training programme is designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on experience in both the theoretical and practical applications of multibeam echosounder (MBES) systems and seabed mapping techniques. The course will begin with foundational modules covering acoustic principles, sonar theory, system components and calibration procedures.
The training then progresses to multibeam data acquisition, processing, and analysis, with a strong focus on using industry-standard software to clean, interpret, and visualise seabed data. Real-world examples and practical exercises – conducted using state-of-the-art acoustic systems onboard the RV Tom Crean – are a core part of the programme.
The ultimate goal is to equip hydrographic surveyors and seabed mappers with practical, actionable skills they can apply immediately in the field, enabling them to make confident, informed decisions that deliver results.
Applications are accepted until 31st July 2025 or until all available slots are filled.
Please see the attached training brochure for more information.
