    Training Information

This training programme, offered in collaboration with HydroOctave and the INFOMAR team, is designed to provide comprehensive, hands-on experience in both the theoretical and practical applications of multibeam echosounder (MBES) systems and seabed mapping techniques. The courses typically begin with foundational modules covering acoustic principles, sonar theory, system components, GNSS and INS navigation, and calibration procedures.
The training then progresses to multibeam data acquisition, processing, and analysis, with a strong focus on using industry-standard software to clean, interpret, and visualise seabed data. Real-world examples and practical exercises—conducted using state-of-the-art acoustic systems onboard the RV Tom Crean—are a core part of the programme.
The goal is to equip hydrographic surveyors and seabed mappers with practical, actionable skills they can apply immediately in the field, enabling them to make confident, informed decisions that deliver results.
