Floating University

Date: The Floating University on the RV Gaia Blu is planned for 2026, date to be confirmed.

Target Group: Postgraduates (MSc and PhD students)

Scientific objectives

• Trans-Mediterranean MED-SHIP
• Activity in connection with the Mediterranean Lighthouse area
• Focus on long-term trend detection and variability in the Mediterranean Sea:
  • Microplastic and other pollutants
  • Thermohaline properties
  • Ventilation of deep and intermediate waters

Participants’ evaluation will be based on:

• Group assignments – Three groups, each comprising of four participants will be organized. Each group, using the data collected during the cruise, will have to define a scientific question and prepare a short presentation.
• Final Assessment – Multiple choice test

• Day 1-4 – In-port training (theoretical background, basic data analysis, instrument use, cruise logistics)
• Day 5-7 – Off-shore activities
• Day 7 – Presentation of group work, final evaluation and cruise report
