The European Marine Biological Resource Centre (EMBRC) is a pan-European research infrastructure which aims to advance knowledge of marine biodiversity and ecosystems. It gives access to research facilities and expertise in marine biology and ecology from Arctic to tropical ecosystems through a network of European marine sites. EMBRC supports both fundamental and applied research for delivering sustainable solutions in the food, health, and environmental sectors particularly. With over 70 marine sites in 10 European countries (Belgium, Finland, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden), EMBRC encourages innovation and is a key driver in the development of the Blue Economy in Europe and beyond. In the face of global environmental challenges, EMBRC contributes to the European effort in understanding marine biodiversity and to the global science-based decision-making process. EMBRC is part of the ESFRI Roadmap since 2008 and was granted the status of European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) by the European Commission in 2018.
