Meet the first three AQUARIUS funded projects

🚀 The first three AQUARIUS funded projects are now underway!

🔹 The Stream-Danube project in the Black Sea

Received FREE Access to the RV Mare Nigrum through the first AQUARIUS Call to study benthic & pelagic processes in the Danube River plume from Romania to Bulgaria.

Why RV Mare Nigrum?
🌊 CTD Rosette for detailed water column sampling
🪱 Sediment corers & grabs to study benthic processes
📡 Multibeam sonar & sub-bottom profiler to map seafloor and plume dynamics

🔹 The ASTRA Project in the Black Sea

Received FREE Access to RV TÜBİTAK Marmara through the first AQUARIUS Call to investigate harmful algal blooms (HABs), their toxins and environmental drivers.

Why RV TUBITAK Marmara?
🌊 Multi-samplers for phytoplankton, zooplankton, benthos & microplastics
🔬 Onboard labs for nutrient, chlorophyll & toxin analyses
🛰️ Advanced survey tools (ADCP, sonar, profilers) to link HABs with environmental change

🔹 The BASEVOC Project in the Baltic Sea

Received FREE access to Utö Marine & Atmospheric Research Station through the first AQUARIUS Call to understand how volatile organic compounds (VOCs) shape the marine atmosphere.

Why Utö Marine & Atmospheric Research Station?
🌬️ Coupled air–sea measurements to connect plankton activity in the water with VOC emissions to the atmosphere
🔬 Continuous seawater flow system allows high-frequency chemical sampling with advanced sensors (e.g. PTR-TOF-MS)
📊 Long-term datasets on ocean, atmosphere & biology provide the baseline to put new VOC measurements into context and reveal climate feedbacks

🌊 Through AQUARIUS Transnational Access, scientists gain access to state-of-the-art facilities to tackle key questions on marine and freshwater ecosystems. Apply for FREE Access now!
