AQUARIUS recognizes the need for a source-to-sea approach to tackle the challenges facing our interconnected aquatic ecosystems. This is why we are integrating and providing access to both marine and freshwater research infrastructures to enable collaborative transnational research and innovation that delivers solutions to these challenges.
Project coordinator Aodhán Fitzgerald, Marine Institute (MI), joined the discussions at the European Ocean Days to see how these solutions will strengthen water resilience across Europe.
Aodhán also participated in the European Blue Parks Community Workshops to discuss collaboration on marine protection and restoration and the effective management of Marine Protected Areas.
Reaching our ambitious targets to protect 30% and strictly protecting 10% of EU sea areas by 2030 can only be achieved by sharing our combined EU resources and knowledge. Enabling transnational access to world class research infrastructures, as AQUARIUS is doing, is a key part of this.
