Description
General Information
Romanian National Oceanographic Data Center (RoNODC) was established in 2007 as a Department of National Institute of Marine Research and Development “Grigore Antipa” (NIMRD). The center is officially recognized as Romanian Oceanographic Data Centre and is included in the list of world oceanographic data centers of IOC/IODE. Its main objectives are to collate oceanographic data, archive, store it and maximize its utilization; to enhance the availability of high quality oceanographic data for a wide group of users; to promote data exchange on national/international level. RoNODC develop and maintain oceanographic data base; acquire, accumulate, process and archive oceanographic data and perform quality control of the data; work out rules for oceanographic data processing and exchange; implement the best oceanographic data practice. It is also responsible for the National Monitoring Programme data management and reporting to the relevant stakeholders. Dealing with different kinds of oceanographic data, the staff of RNODC uses the expertise of the scientists from other departments of NIMRD. The main geographic area of interest is the Black Sea with special attention to the western part of the Black Sea. Part of RoNODC data collections are present in other international infrastructures (SeaDataNet European infrastructure, EMODnet). RoNODC has been involved in international/regional projects such as: EU SeaDataNet and SeaDataCloud, EMODnet, EMODnet Black Sea Checkpoint, Black Sea DOORS, Black Sea BRIDGE.
